Sightseeing in Prague

Prager Castle (Pražský hrad)

Prague Castle, with its courtyards, is the largest enclosed castle complex in the world. It was founded as early as the 9th century. Situated on Hradčany Hill, it towers majestically over the Old Town and the surrounding area. Today, it serves as the official residence of the President of the Czech Republic. In the castle courtyard, you’ll find St. Vitus Cathedral and St. George’s Basilica, among other landmarks. From the hill, there’s a wonderful view of the Old Town and the Vltava River.

Charles Bridge (Karlův most)

Commissioned by Charles IV in 1357, the bridge is one of Prague’s most famous landmarks. Supported by 16 pillars, it spans the Vltava River into the Old Town and features several impressive statues. It is the most popular bridge, and the surrounding area is home to bars and clubs, as well as artists and painters. Coming from the Old Town, you have a wonderful view of Prague Castle.

St. Vitus Cathedral

St. Vitus Cathedral is both the largest church in the Czech Republic and the seat of the archbishop. It is where Bohemian kings were crowned and where nobles, patron saints, and archbishops were buried. In addition to its monumental height, the neo-Gothic high altar and colorful stained-glass windows are particularly impressive.

Golden Lane

Located near the Prague Castle complex, Golden Lane is home not only to the house where Franz Kafka lived for a time, but also to many other small, colorful houses. The street got its name from the goldsmiths who contributed to the city’s prosperity. Many alchemists tried to make gold here. But today, you’ll find small cafés and souvenir shops instead, which are well worth a visit.

Wenceslas Square

Wenceslas Square, more than 700 meters long, is located in the heart of the city center. The square, named after Saint Wenceslas, is lined with numerous cafés, bars, clubs, shops, and restaurants. A statue of Saint Wenceslas stands in the square, and the National Museum is located behind it. From there, you can quickly take the subway to continue exploring the city.

Old Town Hall with Astronomical Clock

It’s not just the clock that’s a real eye-catcher in every way. In addition to the time, it also tracks the movements of the sun and moon and features a zodiac calendar. Every hour on the hour between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., the 12 apostles appear. This spectacle is a must-see on any visit to Prague!

The Dancing House

Located right on the Vltava River is one of the city’s modern landmarks—the Dancing House. It was built in 1996 and is, in essence, just an office building. But its shape and style make it something special. It resembles a dancing couple.
